Celebrating 2014 National Crochet Month III

National Crochet Month CrochetHookedHello my friends…  March is National Crochet Month! A month long celebration to honor the art of crochet and bring awareness to this versatile art form.

Not sure, how you can spread the word about crochet? I have a few suggestion below about teaching, learning, charities and my favorite…

1.  Teaching and/or Learning: The best gift you can give back is by sharing your knowledge and teach someone to crochet:  Here are a few websites with teaching guides to get you started. Also a few site about learning to crochet.

Crochet with Helen

Helen towel toppers
Hello my friends! As I told you in my November 30 blog post,  I’ve been teaching the art of crochet to my neighbor Helen for the past few months. And let me tell you she has exceeded any expectations I had about her learning to crochet.

I wanted to show everyone a few of the marvelous things she has made over these past few months.

Minnie Mouse Hats
First off, she made some Towel Toppers,  in less than a week and gave them to her family as Christmas gifts. What’s a Towel Topper? a dish towel with a crochet edging, which allows the towel to hang from a handle in the kitchen. They do come in handy, cause they are always hanging around… Oh that was a bad pun…lol

Helen also made the cute Minnie Mouse hats, which she donated to a charity auction. Adorable, don’t you think?  Furthermore, she made all of the items in the picture below A Chunky yarn Hat, Shawl with a button and a tassel. A market bag complete with strap and inside

Update, I’ve been…

Suede and Green Mixed Textured Crochet Scarf
Hi Friends!  I am teaching crochet again!  In early November, I learned that my neighbor wanted to learn crochet, so I spoke to her and 4 weeks later, I think she crochets better than I do! LOL

Seriously, I have made two things using yarn in the past 24 months. Everything I make now is with wire, but I can honestly say I have missed crocheting with all the different yarns they have out on the market… which I will see next week when we go shopping… for YARN!

We are having a great time and either my neighbor is a natural crocheter or I am a great teacher… you should see the things she has made in the past several weeks.  She is already crocheting hats for Christmas presents…
